Design and CAD

Find and export
your AutoCAD data.

AutoCAD drawings can live on devices, file servers or Autodesk Docs. Measure those storage locations and keep the files a drawing depends on alongside it.

Find your AutoCAD data size

  1. List the company locations holding drawings, including shared drives and Autodesk Docs projects.
  2. With access to the required folders, inspect their folder size in the operating system or storage service.
  3. For a drawings-only count, list DWG files and identify their referenced drawings and assets.
  4. Add non-overlapping project folders and convert their measured size to GB.
A single drawing can refer to other files. Count and describe those dependencies rather than assuming the DWG alone is the complete project.

What to include in your data inventory

Report in GB with drawing or project counts. Describe DWG files, linked images, PDFs and other supporting assets.

Give the oldest retained project material, contributors represented and whether older revisions remain.

Add the dates covered and the people who use this software. Label estimates and describe how you calculated them.

Export your AutoCAD history

  1. Copy the agreed drawing folders while preserving their paths.
  2. Where useful, use ETRANSMIT, AutoCAD's command for packaging drawings and their dependent files.
  3. For Autodesk Docs, download the project folders with the required permissions.
  4. Check the package's references and supporting assets before considering the collection complete.

Autodesk documents eTransmit as a way to include related drawings, external references and other dependencies.

Current drawings and retained revisions are different scopes. Identify which versions the collection contains.

Why AutoCAD data has value for AI training

Technical drawings can describe how real projects are specified and revised.

Related references and project context can explain the constraints behind a design.

What stays private

Select projects and versions in scope, reviewing client ownership, confidential plans and supporting-asset rights.

Telegraph Lab reviews the proposed material with you and agrees how sensitive information will be handled. Preparation can include excluding material, redacting details and replacing personal identifiers. Your company keeps ownership; the licensing agreement defines the material, permitted uses and authorized recipients.

Common questions about AutoCAD data

Where can we find a company-wide storage meter?

Measure the drawing locations your company uses. AutoCAD files can be spread across several storage systems.

Why keep external references?

A drawing can depend on linked drawings, images or other files to be interpreted correctly.

What does eTransmit do?

It packages drawings and related dependent files for transfer.

Can a PDF stand in for the native drawing?

Describe both representations when available. A rendered PDF and an editable DWG contain different information.
