Find and export
your Close data.

Close's CSV and JSON exports serve different purposes. Flat tables provide record counts, while JSON lead exports can retain the activity history linked to those leads.

Find your Close data size

  1. Use a role allowed to export the records in scope.
  2. Open Leads, clear filters for the full account scope, and choose … → Export.
  3. Export Leads, Contacts and Opportunities as separate CSVs.
  4. Count the rows in each file and record the included types and filters.
A CSV describes the selected record type. Activity history uses the JSON export route.

What to include in your data inventory

Report in records with separate counts for leads, contacts and opportunities. Mention any available email, call, SMS and note history.

Use the earliest lead creation date for the starting year and count current staff accounts. Identify imported history where relevant.

Add the dates covered and the people who use this software. Label estimates and describe how you calculated them.

Export your Close history

  1. From an unfiltered Leads list, open … → Export.
  2. Choose Leads, the JSON format and All fields for the relevant activity-rich export.
  3. Download the archive from the completion email.
  4. Collect the separate contact and opportunity tables if required, keeping their lead relationships.

Close's built-in JSON lead export is the route for activities, including emails, calls, SMS and notes. Check the export settings and sample records for coverage.

Download links expire after 7 days. An API extraction also needs the appropriate activity option and permissions.

Why Close data has value for AI training

Lead histories can connect outreach messages and calls to later opportunity outcomes. Their sequence shows how a salesperson responds as a conversation develops.

Notes and custom fields provide context about the customer's situation and the team's decisions.

What stays private
