Find and export
your Discord data.

Discord's Data Package contains messages sent by the requesting account. Server owners need to distinguish that account-level history from the conversations posted by everyone in a server.

Find your Discord data size

  1. Identify the staff accounts and business channels that would be in scope.
  2. Where available, review Server Insights with the appropriate permission to understand server activity.
  3. Request a Data Package for each participating staff account and count its retained sent messages.
  4. Record the accounts and channels represented. Treat those messages as a partial count of the server's conversations.
Discord's personal data export covers the requesting user's messages. Owning a server does not turn that export into a server-wide transcript.

What to include in your data inventory

Report in messages, with the number of accounts contributing and the channels covered. Describe how you counted them and whether the figure is partial or estimated.

Use the oldest included message for the history start date. Count company staff and moderators represented, and explain whether the server also includes an external community.

Add the dates covered and the people who use this software. Label estimates and describe how you calculated them.

Export your Discord history

  1. In Discord on a computer, open User Settings → Data & Privacy and scroll to Request your data.
  2. Choose Request Data, select the information required and submit the request.
  3. Download the ZIP from the email Discord sends. Keep the account active while the request is processing.
  4. Retain the message JSON files and their channel mapping. Each account should review which business material is relevant.

Discord says requests can take up to 30 days, and the download link remains active for 30 days. The messages folder contains the user's sent messages and attachment links.

Manually deleted messages are excluded. A package also contains unrelated account information, so use the relevant business-message files when defining the dataset.

Why Discord data has value for AI training

A business Discord community can contain technical explanations, product questions and troubleshooting. Channel labels help identify the topic each message addresses.

A contributor's message history provides examples of their work, while the extent of the surrounding conversation determines how much context is available.

What stays private

Each contributor controls their own account export. Select business channels and message files before discussing a licensing scope.

Telegraph Lab reviews the proposed material with you and agrees how sensitive information will be handled. Preparation can include excluding material, redacting details and replacing personal identifiers. Your company keeps ownership; the licensing agreement defines the material, permitted uses and authorized recipients.

Discord states that the package should arrive within 30 days. Its emailed link remains active for 30 days.

Are deleted messages in the package?

Discord says manually deleted messages are no longer stored and are excluded from the Data Package.
