your Instagram data.

Instagram's account export can provide structured profile information and selected media. Specify the profile, dates and content types so its size describes a clear collection.

Find your Instagram data size

  1. Sign in to the company profile and open its settings or Meta Accounts Center.
  2. Go to Your information and permissions → Export your information and create an export.
  3. Choose the correct profile, required content types and full retained date range.
  4. Download the files and measure the collection in GB, stating compressed or extracted size.
Menu labels can vary across app versions. Use the profile's information-export controls and review the selected scope before requesting the file.

What to include in your data inventory

Report in GB, with the profile, period and media types included. Add post, video or message quantities where available.

Identify original company media stored elsewhere and describe which business conversations, if any, are proposed separately.

Add the dates covered and the people who use this software. Label estimates and describe how you calculated them.

Export your Instagram history

  1. Create an export for the business profile and choose the device-download destination.
  2. Select JSON for structured records or HTML for a browsable representation, with the media quality required.
  3. Download every part from the completed export before its stated expiry.
  4. Preserve media, metadata and profile context, checking excluded or unavailable content.

Export types and available history can differ from what appears in the app. Inspect the archive rather than assuming every deleted or private item is present.

Keep original source media where available and review licensing for music or third-party assets.

Why Instagram data has value for AI training

Business posts can connect images and videos with descriptions of products and activities.

Associated dates and profile context can explain how a company presents and discusses its work.

What stays private

Choose owned business content and review private messages, identifiable people and third-party media separately.

Telegraph Lab reviews the proposed material with you and agrees how sensitive information will be handled. Preparation can include excluding material, redacting details and replacing personal identifiers. Your company keeps ownership; the licensing agreement defines the material, permitted uses and authorized recipients.

Common questions about Instagram data

Should we choose JSON or HTML?

JSON provides structured records; HTML is convenient for browsing. State the format collected.

Will every deleted item be exported?

Check actual archive coverage. An account download should not be treated as a complete deleted-content history.

Can private messages be part of the inventory?

Describe their availability separately and agree their scope and handling before collection.

Does posted music become company-owned data?

Review the applicable rights for third-party audio and other assets.
