Find your Linear data size
- Use a workspace role allowed to export; Enterprise accounts can require an owner.
- Open Settings → Administration → Import Export.
- Review the option for private teams and choose Export data.
- Count issue rows in the downloaded CSV and record the included teams.
What to include in your data inventory
Report in records, giving issue count, teams and years covered. Describe projects, comments and attachments separately.
Use the earliest issue creation date and the staff users represented. Note private teams excluded by the export settings.
Export your Linear history
- Run the workspace Export data action with the agreed team scope.
- Download the CSV from the completion email promptly.
- Inspect the fields and attachment references included.
- Have a developer use the Linear API for required comments, relationships or files missing from the CSV.
The workspace CSV provides issue fields. Check the current field list before assuming comment threads are present.
Download links expire, so retain the completed file and record its team scope when it arrives.
Why Linear data has value for AI training
Issue descriptions and updates can show how teams define a problem and move it through review.
Comments and project relationships add context about the reasoning behind that work.
What stays private
Choose the teams and issues in scope, with confidential project material reviewed separately.
Telegraph Lab reviews the proposed material with you and agrees how sensitive information will be handled. Preparation can include excluding material, redacting details and replacing personal identifiers. Your company keeps ownership; the licensing agreement defines the material, permitted uses and authorized recipients.
Common questions about Linear data
Is a view export the whole workspace?
It contains that view's scope and can have item limits. Use the workspace export for the broader selection.
Are private teams included?
Review the export's private-team setting and your role's access.
Are comment threads in the CSV?
Check the documented fields. Plan a separate API collection where threads are required.
Can attachments be included?
Collect actual files separately from issue-field references when the chosen export omits them.
